National Parks and Reserves in Kenya
Amboseli National Park
Located in the Southern region of Kenya near the border of Tanzania, Amboseli National Park is one of Kenya’s most famous wildlife conservation areas. Covering approximately 392 square kilometers, the park is best known for its spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, which forms a dramatic backdrop to the park’s open plains and swamps. Amboseli has an endless underground water supply flowing from the melting ice-capped mountain Kilimanjaro, filtered through thousands of feet of volcanic rock from mountain Kilimanjaro, which funnels into two clear water springs in the heart of the park.
Mount Kenya National Park
Mount Kenya is located in Central Kenya, directly on the equator, approximately 175 km North-east of Nairobi. It is the second-highest peak in Africa also an extinct volcano. It was established in 1949 and later designated a UNESCO World Heritage. It is pristine wilderness with over 20 glacial lakes, tarns, glaciers, dense forest, mineral springs, rugged mountain landscapes, dense bamboo forests, and unique alpine vegetation, and a selection of rare and endangered species of animals like African Elephants, Cape Buffaloes, Giant Forest hogs, water bucks, leopards, lions (rarely sighted), bongo antelopes
Tsavo National Park
Located in the southern part of Kenya, between Nairobi and the coastal town of Mombasa, Tsavo National Park is one of the largest wildlife conservation areas in Africa, covering over 22,000 square kilometers, and it’s divided into two parts: Tsavo West National Park and Tsavo East National Park. Famous for its distinctive vast wilderness, wildlife including elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, and many bird species, and a volcanic landscape. Tsavo Ntional park is also known as The Land of Red Elephants.
Masai Mara National Reserve
Renowned for its exceptional wildlife density, the Masai Mara National Reserve is also home to one of the world’s greatest animal shows in the world, and it’s also Africa’s most celebrated wildlife destination. Located in south-western Kenya in Narok County, along the border with Tanzania’s famous Serengeti National Park. Covering over 270km around the capital of Kenya (Nairobi), the Masai Mara National Reserve forms part of the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. Best known for the millions of wildebeest great migration along the savanna, and the big cats(lions, leopards, cheetahs) that put on a show while hunting the wildebeest. The reserve is named after the Maasai people, the traditional inhabitants of the area, and the Mara River, which flows through the park and plays a crucial role during the annual great wildebeest migration.
Lake Nakuru National Park
Located in Nakuru county, central part of the country in the heart of the Great East African Rift Valley, 160km Northwest of Nairobi. Lake Nakuru National Park is well known for its Pink flamingo birds, the black and white rhinos, big game, rothchild giraffes, birdwatchich and the park’s diverse landscapes—including acacia woodlands, rocky escarpments, grasslands with scenic view points like baboon cliff. Often referred to as the “Birdwatcher’s Paradise,” Lake Nakuru National Park became globally famous for the enormous flocks of flamingos that once lined the lake’s shores, creating a spectacular pink blanket visible even from the air.
Samburu National Reserve
Located in Northern Kenya with a magnificent landscape amidst a semi-arid ecosystem, Samburu National Reserve is a premier conservation area along the Ewaso Ng’iro River. This vast expanse of remote, pristine wilderness is inhabited by iconic wildlife, and a tranquil ambiance blankets this wildlife haven.
